Financial institutions and payment providers were also instructed to stop facilitating betting-related transactions.

The regulator said the decision followed a nationwide investigation into the betting and financial sectors and referred to licensing violations, illegal financial activity and other serious regulatory concerns.

This means that an operator having previously held an Ethiopian betting licence should not be interpreted as evidence that it remains licensed in 2026.
